If Ford were to make a modern version of the iconic Cortina nameplate to celebrate 50 years since the legendary MK1 first rolled off the production line, what would it look like? UK Motoring magazine Auto Express recently asked this very question.

To figure out an answer to a question often debated by British Ford enthusiasts the world over, they commissioned Ford Europe's chief designer, Paul Wraith. The brief from Auto Express editor, Steve Fowler was simple. We are not looking for a new take on the original but we want to stay true to the original as much as possible but with every bit of modern technology and safety built in.
